ITV to make drama about contaminated blood scandal

ITV has announced plans to produce a new drama series based on the shocking true story of the contaminated blood scandal. The scandal, which was revealed in the 1970s and 1980s, saw thousands of people in the UK infected with HIV and hepatitis C after receiving contaminated blood products from the National Health Service.

The drama will explore the devastating impact of the scandal on the victims and their families, as well as the political and medical cover-ups that allowed it to happen. It will also examine the courageous fight for justice by those affected, who have been campaigning for answers and compensation for decades.

ITV’s Head of Drama, Jane Featherstone, said: “This is an incredibly important and moving story that needs to be told. We are honored to be able to bring it to screens and to shed light on the terrible injustices that were suffered by so many people. We hope that this drama will help to raise awareness of the contaminated blood scandal and bring some closure to those who have been affected.”

The drama is set to begin production later this year and is expected to air on ITV in 2022.
