Welsh government admits free school meals failing
The Welsh government has admitted that the free school meals program is not reaching all eligible children in need. This revelation comes after reports of some students going hungry due to a lack of access to the meals.
In response to the issue, the government has pledged to review and improve the program to ensure that all eligible children receive the meals they are entitled to. This includes working with schools to identify and reach out to those who may not currently be benefitting from the scheme.
Education Minister Kirsty Williams stated, “It is unacceptable that any child in Wales should go hungry. We are committed to ensuring that every child who is entitled to a free school meal receives one, and will be taking action to address any gaps in the system.”
The government’s acknowledgment of the failing free school meals program is a step in the right direction towards ensuring that all children have access to nutritious meals while at school.
