Elon Musk Sues OpenAI and Sam Altman for ‘Flagrant Breaches’ of Contract

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its co-founder Sam Altman, alleging ‘flagrant breaches’ of contract. Musk, who helped found OpenAI in 2015 but left the organization in 2018, claims that the company and Altman have violated the terms of their agreement.

In the lawsuit, Musk accuses OpenAI of using his name and reputation to raise funds and support for the organization, without his consent. He also alleges that Altman, who took over as CEO of OpenAI after Musk’s departure, has failed to uphold the commitments made to Musk when he left the company.

“I am deeply disappointed in the actions of OpenAI and Sam Altman,” Musk said in a statement. “I have always been a strong supporter of AI research and development, but I cannot tolerate the flagrant breaches of our agreement that have occurred. I am left with no choice but to take legal action.”

OpenAI has not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit, but a spokesperson for the organization stated that they are aware of the litigation and are currently reviewing the claims made by Musk.

Sam Altman, who also serves as the CEO of the technology accelerator Y Combinator, has not commented on the lawsuit either. Altman was brought in to lead OpenAI in 2019, following Musk’s departure, and has since overseen the organization’s growth and expansion.
